Avi Oster Backs Re-launch of Catherine Fuller Fashion Line
Noted entrepreneur, real estate developer and philanthropist Avi Oster has made headlines by branching out into the world of fashion. Known for boosting artists and cultural projects with his strong network of friends, Oster has turned his eye to the runway and his friend, designer Catherine Fulmer. Fulmer and Oster hosted “Southern Crawl,” a multimedia fashion event that launched Fulmer’s Fall 2011 collection for women.
Oster has thrown his support behind fashion designers in the past, but never personally co-hosted a major fashion event on this scale. In addition to the fall clothing line, the evening featured an enthralling musical lineup with soul singer Marla Joy and superstar New York DJ Paul Sevigny. The depth and energy of the music reflected the style of the clothing, which had a Southern influence. ” I’m obsessed with the burnt orange, black corduroy velveteen, washed silks and the forest green – these colors remind me of the vibe, warmth, and music of the South,” Fulmer said.
These are apparently the same hooks that won Oster’s support for the collection. “I was glad to help Cat re-launch her line, especially after I saw it in action – cutting-edge, yet remarkably elegant, all Catherine Fulmer. For a good year, she has thought about who she is as a designer – raw, downtown, do-it-yourself, make-it-rock chic – and last night, she really got her vision across,” he said. “Having Sevigny and Marla Joy enter the mix helped amplify a great collection.”
Oster has been a backer for Fuller’s line since 2003. Whether he intends to move deeper into the fashion scene remains unknown.
